Mint had quickly sent out the message, sitting in front of the casino he had been about to case with his rocket comrades. He's excited for another outing with Alexandra Briarwood , and it'd be good for fern delaney to learn form her too. He was trying to do stealthy stuff right? That and...they were friends. He'd use any excuse to hang out.

If there's one thing Fern is almost always up for, it's investigating something labeled 'paranormal' or 'spooky' or 'creepy' or...well, anything synonymous- ya get it. Plus, he wasn't about to pass up the opportunity for some kind of hang with mint frost . Doubly nice was the opportunity to work with not just one, but two senior members. And given that Fern still felt annoyingly wet behind the ears within the syndicate, any chance to alleviate that was welcome.[break][break]

"Mint!" they called, hand lifting in the air as a casual greeting. "Am I the first one here? That never happens." Chronically late, typically.[break][break]

Peering around yielded no view of the league scientist that Mint had mentioned, nor Alexandra Briarwood , who he'd yet to meet. And while maybe waiting was the polite thing to do, Fern was a little impatient and eager to get a look at things inside. "Ooh. That means first dibs on first inspection. I'm gonna go ahead," he chimed, "for the...sake of making sure the coast is clear." They grinned, shooting their friend a wink. Sure, right. That was it. He didn't plan to go far, though, as he stepped through the double doors, his chandelure floating behind him, its FLAME BODY already working to detect any thermal abnormalities.[break][break]

In fact, they could still be seen through the wide front window, sauntering up to the receptionist's desk. Planting their hands on the slick marble to hop and slide over to the other side. Even though they could very well just walk around to achieve the same effect. All of it a show to shake off the creeping sensation that immediately began to crawl under their skin on entrance. A fucking casino? Great.

To this day, Lex has never had a pleasant experience in a casino. She expects this to be no different. Even as she approaches the abandoned building, she can feel the heavy presence of evil fall onto her shoulders. A someone who has frequently stride in the Phantom Plane, it takes quite a bit to make the Beast feel unease. Already she is put on edge, making the already unpleasant woman a bit more unpleasant to be around.

Lex spots mint frost and fern delaney just outside the destination, “You didn’t tell me this was a casino,” its’ easy to hear the disdain in her tone as the unsettling glare in her amber eyes moves from the building to mint frost.

Doesn’t matter though, she’s already here.

Fuck it.

“How’d you get your hands on a Head Professor, anyway?” Lex asks discretely as they follow fern delaney into the casino. Lex obviously thinks there’s a secondary motive to dragging illeana reyes into this.

fern delaney’s ghost leads the way with FLAME BODY. Lex releases her own ghost to float ahead into the darkness. Umbra passes by the slot machines towards what seems to be a more important area: Prize Storage.

As a trained thief, the Dusknoir has a penchant for finding the value in things. The ghost phases through the door, FRISKING the leftover belongings for anything of value.

she flashes a small smile to all of them, though her eyes linger on Alexandra Briarwood in particular. doesn't she know her from somewhere?

they each begin with a corner of the casino. she wanders closer to the middle, her rotom out and buzzing excitedly. it'd be nothing to slip into the slot machines and make their search harder... right?

"see anything?"

illeana's voice distracts the rotom from making their lives more difficult. a blessing, perhaps. it buzzes again and shifts closer to the machines. maybe a little energy would draw something out, too? the rotom uses a light thunder wave on the slot machines in an attempt to draw something out...

UPON ENTERING THE CASINO, you and your team split up and search for clues, complacent about the present dangers. You realize almost immediately that you are fond of that feeling of someone having your back, just as it slips away from you...[break][break]

Stopping short of descending the staircase, mint frost finds nothing of import after an initial observation, though they seem not to care for the nitty-gritty details of their investigation. But even still they give a small start when a poster begins to flap with a breeze, despite the lack of ventilation to cause such airflows...[break][break]

Not far from their intrepid companion, fern delaney follows after a curiously attentive Chandelure as it seems to bask in the heat radiating from... where was it radiating from? Try as you might, Fern finds it difficult to pinpoint a source, but it remains undeniable to his senses. A thin veneer of sweat clings to their brow as they feel an intense warmth washing over the area...[break][break]

Keen on taking a chance, or perhaps bearing a grudge against gambling, illeana reyes's Rotom unleashes a thunder wave at her behest. The discharge causes the electronics to fire up despite their seeming dormancy, filling their ears with the sounds of ringing bells and whistles as the machines perform their basic functions. The abrupt commotion is enough to give everyone nearby a rough start, wondering what had just happened.[break][break]

Spiriting herself away to the prize storage beneath them, Alexandra Briarwood peruses the shelving of its merchandise, realizing most of it is the same worthless junk that can be bought at a pokemart. The good stuff must be kept under lock and key, but she does managed to find someone's lost AMULET COIN sitting behind a large pokedoll on a lower shelf. It's unremarkable otherwise, but its as good a trophy as any, she surmises.[break][break]

Mint grins effortlessly at fern delaney before watching the older man dart off. That's fine. He turned his attention to Alexandra Briarwood next. He ignored the first question with a shrug before nodding at the Beast. "I let it slip I was coming here and she mentioned she was familiar with ghosts and the like, so she offered to help." he said with a nervous laugh. "Should be fine, with two ghost experts right? The more the merrier?" he added before the redhead moved along. [break][break]

"Hi illeana reyes!" he said easily once the last companion arrived. He shook his head. "Not yet!" before going about his work. He yelped when he heard the poster move before calming down as Affogato moved in closed to look it over. Her eyes graze over it before gently looking around. Mint tried to check the poster, looking underneath or around. Maybe it was just old. [break][break]

He yelled at the sound of machines going off before calling out. "You ok over there?!" A little warning would've been nice. "What do you make of this so far, Affogato?" he said waiting for a response from his companions before continuing down the BREEZY STAIRWELL.

Rummaging through the desk drawers in the receptionists area has yielded little results…yet. They’re sure there’s something there. Somewhere. Fern waves at the others as they filter into the casino as they arrive—acting like he is the official greeter of the evening.[break][break]

The unexpected sound of the slot machines ringing to life startles him—the sound ringing through the quiet and jumping his nerves enough to make the little stack of folders slip from his hands. scattering papers everywhere. No more than a small squeak slipped from his mouth, but the same cannot be said for the shout that echoes from the stairwell.

A huff of relieved laughter follows when he spies illeana reyes by the machines with her rotom. “You good out there, Mint?” he calls out to mint frost, a wry little grin on his face.[break][break]

The amusement fades, though, when they notice their chandelure hovering in the same area. Frowning, they step closer. “Found something?” But the chandelure only continues to drift in a spiral around the desk. Warmth begins to prickle at the back of Fern’s neck, sinking into their clothes.[break][break]

“Is it hot in here?” they ask aloud to anyone who might hear as they fan themself with a hand, “or is that just me?” Coupled with the unease they already felt, the warmth only intensified their foreboding. But where is it resonating from?[break][break]

Maybe under the desk? Or in or above the filing cabinets just behind? If anything, it’s at least something else to rifle through.

The Dusknoir did not disappoint. She returned to Lex with a large hand cradling an AMULET COIN. At one point in time, it was likely a brilliant piece of treasure to behold. Years of neglect have left it dull with dust. The thief took it in her hand, running a thumb of the coin’s rough surface. It would need some polishing, but it was overall a rather fine item to collect. Her’s to collect. Lex tucked it away in her pocket as a personal prize. Perhaps it would be of use later.

Her desire to snoop around the room some more was broken by the loud cacophony of noise form illeana reyes’s Rotom ignited the machines. Lex nearly jumped out of her skin. The familiar sound brought back very unpleasant memories that made her stomach tighten in anticipation.

Lex and her pokemon rush back to the top, the Dusknoir’s eye glowing brightly as she predicts having to dive into the throughs of a fight. Turns out, the Leaguer’s Rotom just zapped the machines to life.

An icy and displeased glare was shot towards illeana reyes from the Beast, but she said nothing. Her distaste wass clear and she didn’t hide her judgement. She didn’t trust the woman. Terrible fucking idea brining her along. She blamed mint frost.

“Not much in storage,” she admited to the group, finally tearing her gaze off Illeana and shifting it towards fern delaney, “Just an old Amulet Coin,” She leaned over the front of the reception desk to glance at the files and computers. In her experience, there was always more to find. The receptionist held the keys to almost everything.

“Glance around here, will, ya?” she waved for the Dusknoir to FRISK the desk itself, searching for any hidden buttons or latches that could open something unknown to them.

"sorry!" it's shouted across the casino toward the group. and while she'd love to stick with them, the frosty glare Alexandra Briarwood throws in her direction makes her fidget.

she sticks closer to the slot machines, her rotom buzzing excitedly. poor little thing found the commotion amusing, apparently...

"maybe..."

she turns to her rotom for a moment with a curious look.

"think you can get into the slot machines? see if they've been touched at all?"

her rotom buzzes a little louder before creeping closer to the nearest slot machine and trying to infiltrate the slot machine...

Searching for any administrative kiosks or information, Alexandra Briarwood and fern delaney chance across a COIN CASE filled with an untold amount of credits... If nothing else, perhaps you can swindle an unsuspecting receptionist at one of Hoenn's many other game corners; but that is an exploit for another time. While FERN is searching for the source, he cannot help but hear the poster falling to the floor limply...[break][break]

Even while the slot machines continue to malfunction, illeana reyes and her Rotom continue to push their luck. Perhaps there is something about meddling with these gambling machines that incites the ghost, as they are eventually met with a voice:[break][break]
